WASHINGTON -- According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s March 2010 Kraft Paper Sector Report released today, for the third straight month this year total shipments rose over last year. Total Kraft paper shipments were 137.7 thousand tons this month, an increase of 21.9% from last month. The March total shipments rose by 32.5% compared with the same month last year. Total inventory were 4,200 tons less than February 2010.
Total Unbleached Kraft shipments rose to 120.5 thousand tons, an increase of 18.1% from last month. The shipments were up 30.2% compared with the same month last year. The total Unbleached Kraft inventory declined 8.7% to 41.9 thousand tons compared to February 2010.
The total shipments of Unbleached Kraft Bag & Sack increased by 19.6% compared to March 2009, and 18.7% from last month. Total shipments of year-to-date in March 2010 rose by 10.6% compared with 2009.
Total shipments for Unbleached Kraft Multiwall Sack increased 49.5% from same month last year, and 27.3% from February 2010.
Unbleached Kraft Converting shipments were up 23.8% from March 2009, and increased of 8.7% from last month.
Total Bleached Kraft shipments increased by 50.6% compared with same month last year and 57.3% from last month. Total Bleached Kraft inventory dropped 200 tons from last month.
Capacity figures from this month are based on the AF&PA’s 50th Annual Survey of Paper, Paperboard and Pulp Capacity which was released in March 2010.
