WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Forest & Paper Association released its March 2010 U.S. Paperboard Statistics Report today. The capacity figures for the March release are based on AF&PA’s 50th Annual Survey of Paper, Paperboard and Pulp Capacity.
According to this report, total boxboard production increased from March 2009 totals by 64,000 tons or 6.0%. The production of boxboard increased by 7.5% in March 2010 compared to last month, however the average daily production was down 2.5%.
Unbleached Kraft Folding posted a decrease over last year. Production of Unbleached Kraft Folding declined 3.2% compared with the same month last year. March’s production was up by 9.6% when compared to February 2010.
Solid Bleached Folding production rose over March 2009. Current month production increased 10.5% when compared with March 2009 and 13.7% over February. Total Solid Bleached Packaging operated at 90.0% of capacity in March 2010, down 3.2 points from last month, and down 8.4 points from March 2009.
Recycled Folding increased production over last year. Recycled Folding rose 2.8% over March 2009 and 8.6% against February 2010 production. Total Recycled Paperboard operated at 91.8% of capacity in March, 2010, down from 93.4% in February 2010, and up 13.5 points over the same month last year.
Inventories of Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard decreased. The current Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard inventories fell 20.8% when compared to March 2009, and 6,092 tons or 2.0% over last month.
