MAY 2010 PAPERBOARD REPORT
WASHINGTON, D.C. – According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s May 2010 U.S. Paperboard Report released today, total boxboard production increased by 7.1% compared to May 2009, and 1.6% from last month. Year-to-date production was up 4.4% compared to last year.
Unbleached Kraft Folding productionrose by1.9% when compared to the same month last year, and 4.4% from April 2010. The production of year-to-date 2010 climbed 2.5% compared to last year.
Solid Bleached Folding productionwas up 11.3% over May 2009, and 0.9% compared to April 2010.For year-to-date, production rose 3.1% over 2009.Total Solid Bleached Packaging operated at 93.1% of capacity in May 2010, down 2.0 points from last month, and up 10.0 points from May 2009.
The production of Recycled Folding showed anincrease of 4.0% over last year, and increased slightly (0.2%) from last month. Total Recycled Paperboard operated at 90.6% of capacity, 1.2 points less than last month, but rose 9.5 points over the May 2009.
Inventory of Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard increased. The current Solid Bleached Kraft Paperboard inventories rose to 281.7 thousand tons, 4.0% or 10.9 thousand tons higher than last month.
